Former Everton chairman Keith Vines believes Manchester United should appoint former midfielder Michael Carrick as their new manager.

    Erik ten Hag looks set to remain trusted to manage the team, but there is no guarantee he will remain in charge in the future if he cannot improve his performances quickly.

    A number of managers have been link with the role in the past, but Vines believes Carrick is the right choice to take over at Old Trafford.

    “There are all sorts of speculation, whether they go for someone like Thomas Tuchel or Michael Carrick, who is more of a coach-type manager than a Tuchel-type name,” Vines told The Ufabet.

    “I think they might go for the second option and try to bring back the spirit of Man United with the old players like Carrick – he’s prove to be a very good manager, so I think the club might go for that.”

    “But now nobody knows where Ratcliffe is going to go. They’re coming off the back of last season when everyone thought Ten Hag was going to get sack, so these things are coming back to bite them again. It’s a serious problem for Man United. We’re seven games into the season now and it doesn’t look good.”

    Carrick is currently the manager of Middlesbrough in the English Championship, having been in the role since October 2022.
