The total amount of debt in China is about $20 trillion, but the country’s population has grown to about 200 million people and the country has over $20tn of debt outstanding.
The country’s central bank has reported that China’s GDP grew 6.4% last year, but that was down from 6.7% in 2016.

This figure is calculated from the total amount owed by the country to its banks and public agencies, as well as interest payments.

A total of $20.8 trillion is owed by China’s national debt to other countries, including Japan and South Korea.
